Along with the garage rock revival, 2001 was also known for its slight resurgence of loud political guitar bands, many of them recalling the stadium radicalism chic of the Manic Street Preachers. But Terris' debut, Learning to Let Go, suffered more than most largely because of the extra baggage of the band's interest-crushing pre-hype. Starting with Gavin Goodwin's grating, tune-seeking vocal grunts and ending with leg-splayed, Bush-styled grunge-metal hooks and glaringly obvious lyrical themes, nearly every track was a disappointment, losing out to the competition by lacking both the fuzzed-up glam of My Vitriol and the relative warmth of Feeder.
