Nosferatu looked back on its early output with this good to excellent collection, which focuses on singles, B-sides, and remixes that the British goth rockers had provided back in 1991-1993 (when its original vocalist Louis De Wray was still on board). It should be stressed that
Legend isn't a best-of CD and isn't recommended to casual listeners; this collection was designed for Nosferatu's hardcore fans, who will appreciate having the 12" single versions of "Wicker Man," "Vampyres Cry," "Diva," and "Inside the Devil" on the same CD. "Abominations" and "The Crystal Ring" are both from the "Vampyres Cry" 12", and "Pictures of Betrayal" only appeared on the cassette single release of that gem. Meanwhile, "Dark Angel" and the Middle Eastern-influenced "Arabian Heat" are B-sides of various cassette singles.
Legend has its share of rarities, which is something that collectors will be glad to know. Again,
Legend isn't for those who have only a casual interest in Nosferatu, but it will easily hold the attention of serious goth collectors. ~ Alex Henderson
