Clare Fischer has certainly had an eclectic career, being an important big-band arranger but also a lover of both Afro-Cuban and Brazilian jazz. On this intriguing set, he sticks to synthesizers while joined by
Dick Mitchell on reeds, bassist Brent Fischer (
Clare's son), drummer Tris Imboden, Michito Sanchez on congas, and
Luis Conte on timbales. The music leans towards Afro-Cuban jazz but also hints at times at Brazilian pop music. The emphasis is on the strong melodies and, although not
Fischer's greatest set, there are many moments of interest to be heard. ~ Scott Yanow
