The second full-length recording for London-based
Les Hommes captures a cool, acid jazz sound while still maintaining the definitive Eighteenth Street Lounge feel. The three-man, three-woman outfit could be likened to
the Cinematic Orchestra in organic preservation of live instrumentation within their modern sound, but succeeds in embodying all the crucial aesthetic components to still fall in the electronic record bins. Classic-sounding organ lines by Rory More dance around the
Ron Carter-sounding upright basslines and the incredible lounge/swing of drummer Vladimiro Carboni. A nice step by ESL to further blur the lines between Groove Holmes and
Jazzanova and a warm and seductive listen all the way through.
