A fine collection of 18 vintage sides, Let's Take a Sea Cruise includes "Sea Cruise" and "Roberta," which established
Ford's claim as one of the first of the great white R&B singers. Most of this is first-rate New Orleans R&B with a swinging bounce, enhanced by
Ford's cool and cocky vocals, although a few tracks are lame excursions into trad jazz or teen idol fare. Although it takes its place as the definitive
Ford anthology, there's room for improvement: documentation for when the tracks were originally released is nonexistent, and much of the music was obviously dubbed from vinyl records, not from master tapes. ~ Richie Unterberger
