Although he is in fine voice throughout the album,
Ty Herndon's
Living in a Moment is bogged down by mediocre material that fails to given him a proper showcase for his talents.
Herndon doesn't write his own material, which might not necessarily be a bad thing -- after all, hundreds of country singers don't write their own songs -- but he doesn't have the best ear for selecting songs. When he does have a strong song -- like the title track or "Don't Tell Mama" -- he sounds terrific, but otherwise
Herndon simply sounds adequate. Furthermore, on the undistinguished numbers, the production sounds generic and canned, which also hurts the record. Although
Herndon still shows promise, it's hard to avoid the fact that
Living in a Moment sounds like a sophomore slump.
