Released in conjunction (and sharing a title) with
Dave Davies' second memoir,
Living on a Thin Line isn't so much a hits collection as it is a soundtrack to an autobiography. There are familiar songs, sometimes in different versions -- the title track and "You Really Got Me" are both latter-day live incarnations -- and a fair chunk of solo deep cuts. As an anthology, it leaves a listener wanting more, particularly of
Davies' AOR albums of the early '80s as this relies pretty heavily on his 2000s records, but it does serve its function as a book companion quite well. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
