Due to various complications between
Sea Level and Capricorn Records,
Long Walk on a Short Pier was barely released in the U.S. -- it was distributed only briefly before being pulled. (It actually surfaced in several countries, but for many years, it was one of the rarest albums in their catalog.) Capricorn reissued the album in 1998, fulfilling the desires of hardcore fans of the group. And it is only hardcore fans who will be interested in
Long Walk on a Short Pier, since it does find the band running out of ideas. Their Southern rock-blues-jazz fusion had run out of steam by 1979, and while there are some good solos scattered throughout the album, only the devoted fan will want to search them out. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
