Multi-instrumentalist, a whistler on films from the Ennio Morricone/Sergio Leone duo, singer of the famous Mah nà mah nà, by Piero Umiliani, Alessandro Alessandrini (1925-2017) was also a versatile and talented composer. The 15 instrumental (and brand-new) tracks on this compilation come from film soundtracks, and from albums of sonic illustrations – records made for multimedia professionals, which have since become holy grails for electro composers and collectors. Written between 1972 and 1978, these treasures, unearthed by the excellent label Four Flies Records bear witness to Alessandrini’s passion for all musical styles, from disco (Underground Disco) to ballads (Pipe Dream) via electronic experiences that come close to ambient sound (Synthetic Rendez-vous). Digging out these gems from the lonely cavern where they had been shamefully languishing, this album is a worthy document of one of the most important men behind the curtain of Italian music from the 1960s and 1970s. © Nicolas Magenham/Qobuz
