Deadbeats had pretty much glued their reputation on hip-hop-styled downtempo. By the time they released their debut, it was clear they didn't much care for straying far from the template. With lots of smoke-filled grooves and production that focused on mood rather than impact, it was all rather crisp and minimal, like a less desperate Chris Clark, if still relatively uninteresting.
