Paris Washboard is a charming and swinging trad jazz outfit consisting of clarinetist
Alain Marquet (doubling on bass clarinet), trombonist Daniel Barda, pianist
Louis Mazetier (Olivier Lancelot takes his place on three numbers), and Gerard Bagot on washboard. Gerard Gervois' tuba makes the ensemble a quintet on half of the selections on this CD, the group's fifth release for Stomp Off. The interplay by Marquet and Barda, who often share melody lines and alternate roles, is consistently delightful. Their renditions of such tunes as "When You and I Were Young, Maggie," "Them There Eyes," "Nagasaki" and "Buddy's Habit" are quite fresh, infectious and full of surprises. A difficult group to resist.
