Mildly psychedelic indie pop makes up the bulk of this second LP from
Viva Voce. Though there's nothing really new or innovative going on here, and though the album often seems a little too imitative of the Elephant 6 scene,
Lovers Lead the Way is a pleasant listen, with lots of warm keyboard sounds and layers of hazy guitars. Singer Anita Robinson sometimes takes a bright singsongy approach, while at other times she waxes sultry and soulful.
Viva Voce's other core member, Kevin Robinson (Anita's husband), even takes over the mike on a few tracks, keeping things fairly engaging. Each listen reveals a little bit more, so mark this one down as a grower. ~ Jason Nickey
