Lush Interlude features remakes of nine
Stan Kenton standards (plus the newly written "Lush Waltz") re-orchestrated by
Pete Rugolo for five trombones, flutist George Spelvin (who may in reality be
Bud Shank), guitarist
Laurindo Almeida, an oversized rhythm section (with a few extra percussionists), and a string section. Some of the music is quite romantic (particularly "Interlude" and "Opus in Pastels") and the renditions of such tunes as "Concerto to End All Concertos," "Collaboration," and "Artistry in Rhythm" certainly sound much different than the originals. A successful and often-haunting effort, well worth exploring.
