The latest effort from this German band is a likable, if overlong, collection of 2-Tone-derived modern ska. Lots of horns, lots of songs about beer, lots of strange Teutonic humor -- you get the picture.
Make a Move opens and closes with a Specials cover: the first version is a more or less sober, the last a more or less blotto version of "Enjoy Yourself." In between we have the cute title track, a badly produced foray into skacore ("Easy Come, Easy Go") and two excellent reggae songs ("Don't Go Searching for Luck," "Make Up My Mind"), as well as garden-variety ska of varying quality. The horn section does itself proud on the instrumental arrangement of the lounge classic "A Taste of Honey," and five of the last six tracks are billed as "Euro-ska," which means repeats of several earlier cuts sung this time in Italian, Russian, German, Spanish and French. Ska fans will enjoy this album tremendously. ~ Rick Anderson
