A product of the meeting of the Malian djembéfola Ibrahim Sarr and the French percussionist Aymeric Krol, BKO is at once a quintet, which welcomes to the same table the normally-separate traditions of Mandinka hunters and Griots. For this second album, Mali Foli Coura (in Bambara, "New Music of Mali"), a certain thrilling spirit has also been invited. It has overtaken the strings and saturated the n'goni solos, pushing the group towards exhilarating rock sounds. Fassara Sacko and Adama Coulibaly share lead vocals while the latter takes care of rhythm on the Donso Ngoni, the hunter's guitar, whose riffs dominate the excellent Dirty Donso. This record, full of surprises and nuance, closes with Mon amour, a tender duet, acoustic and unexpected, between Fassara Sacko and Mathieu Boogaerts. © BM/Qobuz
