Aloha Margaritaville: Hawaiian Tribute to Jimmy Buffett is a nice idea, reinterpreting the singer's famously laconic Caribbean party music with ukuleles and slide guitars for a gentle South Pacific air. And some of it works, like "Pencil Thin Moustache" and "Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitude." But this set doesn't really go far enough with its intended theme. Besides being acoustic and instrumental "Volcano" doesn't sound all that different from the original, and "Why Don't We Get Drunk" still sounds like the lazy honky tonk number it's always been.
Aloha Margaritaville needs more ukes, more slack-key and slide guitar, more of the island breeze it's trying to kick up with these nice but ultimately forgettable
Buffett renditions. ~ Johnny Loftus
