After a high-profile release (at least by electronic standards) for Toytronic,
Multiplex returns with a remix CD packed with familiar names -- and a few new ones as well. The majority of the established players provide mixes that mirror their own styles.
Kreidler turn in a whiplash-inducing electro-teutonic mix,
Funckarma adds a heavy bass kick and vocoder to "Always Within You," and just to prove how eclectic the roster is here, there's a stoned-in-space version of "Environments from strum and drone stalwart
Füxa. As interesting as the "names" mixed are, it's the up-and-comers and less-established remixers that steal the show on
Mixt. The hissing arrhythmia of "Patients" from Mr.Projectile, classic push-button techno of Doydy Race on "Lextic," and the fragile laptop disintegration of
Mitchell Akiyama's "Patience" all push in interesting but very different directions. If
Mixt has any flaw, it's that
Multiplex occasionally gets lost in the translation, but solid mixes such as these report just as much about the source as they do the interpreters.
