"The thinking man's mosh" is what
This or the Apocalypse likes to call their brand of highly technical hardcore-prog-metal. And after hearing their 2008 release,
Monuments, you're sure to agree with this musical description. Equally influenced by
Underoath and
Iron Maiden, this Lancaster, PA-based quintet lay it on heavy throughout (save for one brief "time out," "Momento Mori"). And unlike many other chops-heavy bands, the lads never forget the importance of the groove -- just check out the nifty breakdown section in the terrifying title track. But lets face it -- it's their impressive chops that will really make your jaw hit the floor (especially considering how young the band is), especially on such ditties as the album opening "No Horizons" and "Two Wars." ~ Greg Prato
