New Orleans vocalist
Jean Knight, who enjoyed a soul smash in the 1960s with "Mr. Big Stuff," scored a novelty winner in the 1980s with her version of what was the nation's most covered song in 1985, "My Toot Toot." There were Cajun, soul, country, blues, and pop versions, and labels were battling each other over the variations and licensing rights. Unfortunately, neither
Knight's slightly soulful/humorous edition, nor the resulting album, which had a couple of good ballads, generated much attention beyond the curiosity stage.
