Náufragos repeats the producer, recording studio, and label of its predecessor, Las Noches de Insomnio (2010), so it shouldn't be surprising that it offers more confirmation than innovation. Less abrasive and more pop-oriented than their early work, this latest album by
Niños Mutantes functions as a fine example of the sound of Spanish indie rock today, as practiced by artists such as
Vetusta Morla,
Corizonas, and
La Habitación Roja. Highlights include the acoustic opener "La Puerta," the more upbeat first single "Hundir la Flota," and the driving "Caerán los Bancos." ~ Mariano Prunes
