The album title sounds like a sloganeering
Rage Against the Machine disc, and the band is actually a solo side project for
Spitalfield bassist T.J. Minich. Minich sings on this record since he assembled a backing band culled from unsigned pop-punk and metal bands in his Midwest home. Despite all of that,
New Years Revolution is actually paint-by-numbers indie-rock-inspired emocore that sounds like a more earnest take on the geek rock of
Weezer. There's nothing offensive about the disc, though there's nothing particularly special here either, and Minich's whiny voice can be charitably described as an acquired taste. ~ Brian O'Neill
