Taelor Deitcher, alias Felix Cartal releases his third studio album Next Season. A feel good collection of 18 tracks that are built for the balmy days of a summer sunset. The Canadian producer had finished an entire album two years ago, but after listening to it alone, he scrapped the LP and started again, aiming to be more true to himself and his sound. Having released Popular Music (2010) and Different Faces (2012), this album is his most creative yet, with features from Veronica (Faces), REGN (Runaway) and Ofelia K (Drifting Away). Cartal isn’t afraid of tackling the classics too, as with Get What You Give, he creates a melodic, vibey track that is a novel take on The Radicals You Get What You Give, with distorted vocals and dreamlike synths. Stop Being Yourself is built from the classic electronic mould, with Gabrielle Current’s chopped up vocals ricocheting all over the chorus. While the single Faces is a cry to society to lift their head from the prison that is our screens. This is Cartal at his best as the important social message is paired with a crescendo to a bouncy hook and throbbing electronic chords. The entire LP is euphoric and will no doubt leave you in a blissful state of mind after a listen. © Aidan Nickerson/ Qobuz
