Coyote Oldman --
Michael Graham Allen (Native American flutemaker and flautist) and Barry Stramps (sound engineer and fellow musician) -- recorded their first album,
Night Forest in 1986, and until 1997, it was available only on cassette. This special edition brings the special sounds of their echoing flutes to CD, with the addition of four previously unreleased tracks. The album begins with the 13-minute title track; its lovely flutes sounds dance together as moths around a flame, while the flutes' reverberations seem to bounce of canyon walls in the icy air. Other tracks feature solo flutes with sound enhancement to make them sound closer; digital reverbs often change the sonic environment. Listening to this album is a peaceful and noble experience. Unfortunately, the new liner notes do not include specifics on either the pieces or which tracks are new to the special edition.
