Although this CD is listed as being by the duo of
Shelby.Brown, which consists of saxophonist Gentry Shelby and guitarist Dee Brown, the leadership role falls mainly to Shelby. The music is typical crossover R&B/dance music with mildly soulful and jazzy solos. Mostly heard on soprano, Shelby has a derivative sound and displays an unadventurous and safe solo style. The rhythm section is fairly anonymous while the occasional vocals are derivative and passionless R&B. There is nothing about this CD that stands out from a crowd of very similar "radio-friendly" releases. All of the musicians involved are capable of better. ~ Scott Yanow
