No More Wig For Ohio by Odd Nosdam - DeepRiffs

As if the Anticon stable of artists hadn't been weird enough already, it turned up the odd meter by officially introducing longtime satellite associate Odd Nosdam (also one-third of the group cLOUDDED, which recorded two albums for Mush) as a full-fledged member with No More Wig for Ohio, his first solo outing for the label. Picky listeners who insist on such minor details as form and content may find themselves experiencing increasing irritation because there isn't much of either on the album. Listening to it is sort of like trying to fit 24 pieces from 24 different puzzles together into a coherent whole. That isn't to say that the music doesn't have its intrigues, intermittent as they may be. No More Wig for Ohio is hip-hop only according to the most liberal definition of the genre. What it more closely resembles is a collage made out of snippets of ambient and techno music, with a bit of stray dialogue thrown in, and while the individual, untitled snatches are often interesting in and of themselves, there is little in the way of sound-sculpting or logical organization. They are pasted together seemingly at random instead of being transformed into something more than the sum of the parts. The album is potentially valuable as a source for samples, but it fails as a listening experience.
