Nosso Baden is predominantly a record of a chamber music, with
Baden Powell's delicate voice/guitar interpretations found on all of the tracks except for two, which are pieces for voice and percussion by the
Originais do Samba ("Até Eu" by
Powell/
Paulo César Pinheiro, and "Queixa" by
Powell/
Vinícius de Moraes).
Powell's original revision of classics like the valse "Abismo de Rosas" (Canhoto), highly popularized by
Dilermando Reis' romantic guitar, cuts out sentimental excesses and presents a sensitive rendition from a renewed perspective. In the same way, the choro "Ingênuo," by
Pixinguinha (with lyrics added by
Powell), also gets a new shape with the meditative take presented here. "Jongo," one of the wonderful creations for the violão solo (solo guitar) by João Pernambuco, is on the subtly rhythmic side, where
Powell's pop background is an advantage over the classical guitarists. The album closes with "Canção das Flores" (
Powell/
Paulo César Pinheiro), which was also offered in an instrumental single version so the listener could write his/her own lyrics and become
Powell's partner. ~ Alvaro Neder
