San Francisco sculptor and musician Karma Moffett's Ocean Bowls is an ingeniously simple, profoundly successful, and quite literal meditation. Collected over decades, Moffett's finely refined 24-piece bowl collection is the subtle star of the show. Droning into spots of colorful vibrations, the gongs move in tandem with a continuous field recording of waves at Point Reyes, in the San Francisco Bay Area, sometimes swallowed whole by the crashing, sometimes ringing out above it. The music -- a single hourlong track -- is nearly synesthetic in its pleasures, the vivid tones floating by gently. New agey, perhaps, but exceptionally tasteful, and deep zone music for any possible use.
