Rosemary Clooney's debut at the London Palladium is chronicled on this relatively brief 10" LP. The 10" format generally held eight songs, but this one has only six, with a running time of only 18 and a half minutes. Nevertheless, that allows
Clooney room to display her talents on a range of material, starting with a forceful rendition of
Cole Porter's "From This Moment On." "Ebb Tide" gets a hushed treatment, then
Clooney explains her method of picking material for the show, leading up to an excellent version of
Porter's "It's Delovely." "Danny Boy" is a sentimental favorite, while "Where Will the Dimple Be?" recalls
Clooney's abilities with novelty material. "Learnin' the Blues" is a strong closer that only whets the appetite for more. One suspects that at least some of this recording was made in a studio, with applause dubbed in. But the performances are strong enough that it doesn't matter. ~ William Ruhlmann
