Karma's follow-up to the successful Slap in the Face was a fine example of how a band can deliver more of the same, and yet still evolve their sound enough to keep critics happy. While folk is still the foundation of
Karma's work,
One Day Soon sees her expanding more into rock territory on this disc, most notably with the title track and first single from the album. Unlike
Henry Ate's debut,
One Day Soon is a successful rock album, devoid of the embarrassing album filler that marred Slap in the Face. This disc confirms
Karma's place as one of South Africa's most talented and exciting musicians. More than that, though, it shows a maturing songwriter starting to realize her considerable potential.
