Hoewel hij wat van de meest essentiële, elementaire blues uit de muziekgeschiedenis heeft voortgebracht, is B.B. King nooit bang geweest om andere richtingen in te slaan, en sommigen zullen zeggen dat hij af en toe te ver doorsloeg. One Kind Favor zal die twijfelaars de mond moeten snoeren. Met behulp van de roots noir-aanpak van superproducer T-Bone Burnetts, levert King hier een reeks gruizige, gepassioneerde interpretaties van nummers die hem hebben beïnvloed in de jaren 50. Van Kings soulvolle, syncopische versie van Blind Lemon Jeffersons country-blues klassieker “See That My Grave Is Kept Clean” tot de stampende Chicago-stijl overname van het Mississipi Sheiks nummer “The World Is Gone Wrong.” King bewijst dat hij op 82-jarige leeftijd nog steeds vurige, energieke muziek kan maken die ontegenzeggelijk nog net zo vitaal is als alles wat gemaakt wordt door artiesten die 3 keer zo jong zijn.
