Stepping out from his role as fiddler and singer with Americana quintet
the Deadly Gentlemen, Michael Barnett follows a variety of muses on his 2014 solo venture
One Song Romance. Barnett is no stranger to collaborations and he enlists an impressive cast of folk scene veterans to aid him on this outing which ranges from progressive bluegrass show pieces ("Hopped the Train to Hudson") and humorous swing romps ("Dig, Dig, Dig") to austere and atmospheric ballads ("Raindrops and Puddles"). Helping out on harmonies are dulcet-voiced folk singers
Aoife O'Donovan and
Sarah Jarosz, while
Punch Brothers bassist
Paul Kowert and the rest of Barnett's
Deadly Gentlemen cohorts round out the band. ~ Timothy Monger
