In 2001, Philippine artist Rannie Raymundo released Oras (Time). There are a wide variety of styles performed on this album, including pop, easy listening, blues-influenced music, show tune ambience, and rock, many of which are mixed together in one song. The opening, "Bigyan Mo Ako" (You Give Me), opens on a pretty, mellow keyboard introduction that rides atop a softly thumping bassline. Raymundo sings here in a pleasant voice. The song's chorus has a pop, show tune ambience. In another section of the song, Raymundo sings in a blues-inspired manner, and there is some bluesy piano work heard in another section. "Puso Ko" (My Heart) is a pop/easy listening tune that flirts with rock, but ultimately lacks much substance. "Ikaw Ang Gusto Ko" (You're the One I Like) opens on rhythmic, bluesy guitar playing. The song has the feel of the blues, but there is also an unsettling pop/easy listening ambience heard, and the song ends up sounding like plastic pseudo-blues. "One Way Love Affair" features acoustic guitar and voice; the guitar is Spanish-tinged in spots. Ultimately, though, the song is mawkish. All the songs were composed by Raymundo, who also plays drums, harmonica, and guitar on several songs. The album's best song is the bluesy "Buksan Mo Iyong Mga Mata" (Open Your Eyes). Although there are pop/easy listening overtones on the song, it isn't buried by them, and the song's substantive core is allowed to shine through. Overall, however, the album's material isn't very enticing. In addition, the album has no direction, and is too much of a hodgepodge.
