Although this cacophonous, teeth-gritting, tumultuous trio is from Portland, OR, they sound more like a mid-'80s, Midwestern, post-hardcore, metallic noise rock band. The mix of shuddering noise, breakneck-heavy intensity, and Chris Dunn's screeching vocals recalls such bands as Crucifucks and Die Kreuzen, perhaps with large bits of early Corrosion of Conformity or D.R.I., and that last Bad Brains LP on Madonna's label. It's unfailingly punishing and unhappy, but also unquestionably powerful and amazingly tightly played if you can stand it. On the best stuff, like the pulverizing "Descending Clouds," they approach a mid-'80s Black Flag My War or Slip It In-like distorted din that's just as over-the-edge as Greg Ginn and Henry Rollins were. Good if you like that; it's sure intense. ~ Jack Rabid
