The White Stripes play noisy punk-blues in the vein of
Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. The A-side on this 7", "Party of Special Things to Do," is a skuzzy thump-and-grind number. On the B-side, the band plays scaled-down, back-porch acoustic blues on "China Pig" and then thrashes through a cover of
Captain Beefheart's "Ashtray Heart." This record has a noisy, undeniably iconoclastic power, but unfortunately, it seems like you've heard it before. ~ Charles Spano
