An affectionate tribute to the romantic and dramatic Andalusian coplas he grew up with,
Pasión Española is the 2008 release from legendary tenor
Plácido Domingo. Recorded at Teatro Albeniz with the backing of the
Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid and
Miguel Roa, the nostalgic album, which
Domingo describes as 13 mini-operas, feature songs originally written between 1930 and 1950 by Manuel Lopez-Quiroga Miquel, Antonio Alvarez Alonso, and Juan Mostazo Morales, AND made famous by the likes of
Concha Piquer,
Imperio Argentina, and
Lola Flores. ~ Jon O'Brien
