In 2003, one might assume that a compilation entitled
Fusion India would be some sort of electronica offering, given the success of some of the Asian underground movement, but that's not the case. The Western elements fused here are those of jazz and, to a lesser extent, Western classical music as on "Sandhya Shree."
Rahul Sharma does use some keyboards on a couple of his pieces, but the sound is much closer to
Tangerine Dream than anything headed for the dancefloor.
Shivkumar Sharma and
Hariprasad Chaurasia are two of India's finest players, and it's interesting to hear them in a non-classical setting. ~ Sean Westergaard
