Besides attempting to be the definitive
Generation X compilation,
Perfect Hits 1975 -- 1981 seeks to give the band punk credibility with its erroneous title (the band formed in late 1976). The collection wisely focuses on their vastly superior debut LP by incorporating two more songs than on The Best of Generation X, though "Wild Dub" should have been omitted. What's missing are subsequent album tracks like "Running With the Boss Sound," "Night of the Cadillacs," and "Revenge," all included on The Best of Generation X. The compilers try to please collectors, but miss the mark with a poorly mixed BBC version of "Day by Day," an unspecified take of
John Lennon's "Gimme Some Truth" (marred by an out-of-tune guitar), and the obscurity "New Order," which is only a mediocre tune, at best. ~ Bart Bealmear
