Pianist
Patrick PaLomo, although born in Guam and a resident of Hawaii for a decade, is at his best on this CD when playing Latin-flavored jazz. He performs 11 of his originals along with two standards and sometimes shows the influence of
Bobby Enriquez although without getting quite as carried away as
Enriquez can at his most extreme.
Mary Fettig, who contributes several alto and flute solos, is a major asset to the session and Kenneth Lee Washington's occasional vocals (his scatting hints at Jon Hendricks and
Bobby McFerrin) add variety to this well-paced and consistently melodic set. ~ Scott Yanow
