Much ballyhoo was made of this two-track 7" featuring
Fennesz's "covers" of
the Rolling Stones and
Brian Wilson. In spite of enthusiastic testimony to the contrary, "Paint It Black" and "Don't Talk (Put Your Head on My Shoulder)" don't bear even the remotest resemblance to the originals. The reissue of the record's less-than-ten-minutes of abstract guitar textures by the American label Moikai says more for Moikai label chief
Jim O'Rourke's penchant for pop subversion than for the intrinsic quality of the music, which though interesting enough, simply doesn't approach
Fennesz's other releases. For completists only. [Editions Mego released the CD in 2006.] ~ Sean Cooper
