This was one in a series of recordings pianist
Oscar Peterson did showcasing the music of particular American composers. It was really hard to get up a great enthusiasm for this set with bassist
Ray Brown and drummer
Ed Thigpen because there's so much superior
Peterson available. An easy ballad approach mixed with the usual
Peterson panache on the swingers. The relative quality of
Peterson's playing was high and this reached that minimum. This was a "good" set of
Cole Porter; there are many better
Oscar Peterson outings.
