American Music's 2013 CD
Plays, Sings & Reminisces relies on a recording session
Creole George Guesnon gave in his living room in New Orleans on November 19, 1960, with a bonus track cut with Drag's Half Fast Jazz Band in 1965 added to the end. Here,
Guesnon sings and recites his own poetry and he is interviewed, spinning yarns and telling his story so colorfully it is sometimes a disappointment when he picks up his banjo and strums. By combining the stories with the poetry and songs, this album paints a full portrait of this idiosyncratic, largely forgotten figure of New Orleans folk and blues. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
