Sasu Ripatti's fifth album as
Luomo,
Plus involves a handful of guest vocalists but is the most atmospheric
Luomo album since 2000’s
Vocal City. That’s not to say it’s a return to that album’s soft glitches and dubby undercurrents. It’s more a minor variation on 2008’s streamlined-yet-robust
Convivial, with the vocals more a textural element than a drawing point. The best moments here are in the longer, more winding tracks that are both psychedelic and climactic, as heard best on “Make My Day.” On the other end, there’s “Good Stuff,” a tepid, too-long track that sounds like an attempt to fuse early Chicago house and
Ministry’s early synth pop phase. ~ Andy Kellman
