ALBUM

Antonio Luque's eleventh album as Sr. Chinarro marks a surprising turn for the indie rock songwriter, as he delivers his most upbeat, luminous set. Presidente's newfound glee owes a good deal to producer and guitarist Jordi Gil, who is not below incorporating trumpets and violins, as in the first single "Vacaciones en el Mar," or in the call to sex "Una Llamada a la Acción." At any rate, Sr. Chinarro's trenchant irony is often right below the glossy surface, and tellingly resurfaces on the quieter second half.
