Florida rapper Real Boston Richey first hit a recording studio in 2021, and quickly earned a buzz with singles like "Keep Dissing," which added a Southern drawl to Detroit trap-style production. After signing with Future's FreeBandz label, Richey released Public Housing, his first full-length project, in August of 2022. His rhyming style is certainly striking -- he has a creaky, world-weary voice and almost always makes a clean stop before the end of every bar, letting his lyrics sink in for a moment. His style seems almost deadpan compared to more animated, ad-lib-happy rappers, but he lands some clever lines, though they're easy to miss if one isn't paying close attention. Three of his earlier singles appear in updated versions with guest verses by major names (Lil Durk, Moneybagg Yo, and label boss Future), and they're still some of his most memorable tracks, particularly the icy "Keep Dissing." Tucked away at the end is "Getting Better," the album's most emotional, soul-baring track. Public Housing reached the Top 40 of Billboard's R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart.
