This compilation from Water Music has a misleading title. None of the tracks on
Pure Techno could possibly be categorized as such, but it wouldn't have been a very smart marketing move to give the disc an even less meaningful title like Electronic Dance Music. To wit, it's varied in a scattershot way -- not in an eclectic way. Sure, the worlds of progressive trance, progressive house, nu breaks, and even post-trip-hop are touched upon, but the selections are too random to make the whole thing appeal to the average dance-music fan. Some of the better tracks come from
Felix da Housecat,
ATB,
Utah Saints, and
Amon Tobin.
