If you're a deep house aficionado, you're sure to love this generous continuous mix from Brooklyn-born DJ Spinna, who has raided the Guidance records catalog to bring you an hour and a quarter of trance-inducing, dubbed-up club grooves for your hand-waving, hip-shaking, glow-sticking pleasure. The disc starts off with jazzy, faintly Latin grooves courtesy of Brace, Butti49, and Chuck Perkins, but then quickly sinks into four-on-the-floor house beats and stays there for most of the 21 tracks that remain. There are occasional detours, such as Paul Hunter's jazz-flavored "Reflection" and the explicitly reggae-inflected "Righteous Dub" by Uptight Productions (and don't miss the Mutabaruka cameo). But otherwise, this is a long exercise in trancey club grooves, and as such it's mostly attractive in a purely functional way. Highlights include the cool Jazzanova remix of Ursula Rucker's "Circe" and a very pretty number called "Baghdad Cafe" by A:Xus (featuring vocals from Naomi Nsombi). Recommended. ~ Rick Anderson
