In the somewhat murky world of indie films, cable movies, and short-run features, there exists the beautiful music of
the Wild Colonials. The basis of their sound is folk-rock with a British Isles feel. The unforgettable feature here is the distinctive pop voice of
Angela McCluskey. The songs collected here brightened scenes in Mr. Wrong, Unhook the Stars, Flirting With Disaster, and others.
The Colonels' contemporary roots rock is sophisticated, featuring strong songwriting, multi-instrument arrangements, and
McCluskey's dynamic lyrics.
Cyndi Lauper,
Dr. John, and
Shudder to Think guest on this album. There are a few covers here, and it is well worth hearing their new incarnations of "Brokedown Palace" (
Grateful Dead) and
Muddy Waters' "Evil." ~ Tom Schulte
