With so many
Yellowman compilations to choose from, and over 50 discs in the dancehall icon's discography, finding the ultimate best-of record is no easy task.
Reggae Essentials may not be a solid overview, but it serves as a quick, easy way to get your feet wet. The opening three songs "Zungguzungguguzungguzeng," "Nobody Move Nobody Get Hurt," and "Mister Chin" are essentials. Any material from
Mister Yellowman and
King Yellowman is good, and "Give Me the Morning Ride" is no exception, while "Still Be a Lady/Girls Can't Do What the Guys Do" is a great cover of the
Betty Wright hit. The second half dips into more obscure territory, but if you can find the album for a worthwhile price, this is a nice little ten-song comp.
