Beefcake's brand of upbeat punk borders on the inane (if you remove the disc from its case, you find a photo of
Beefcake written across the four members' bare posteriors), yet
Rejected is an entertaining, humorous album that follows along the lines of
blink-182 and
Guttermouth. With song titles such as "Bob Saget (I Hate You)" and "Proctologist," you can make an accurate assumption of what to expect from this four-piece. One of the high notes on
Rejected is the enjoyable cover of
Cheap Trick's "Surrender," as the band does a nice job of converting the tune into rollicking punk fun. If you like your music serious, steer clear, but for those who like the style,
Beefcake does a commendable job. ~ Jason D. Taylor
