Kim & Reggie Harris have had their share of tragedy in recent years. First, in 2008, only a donated liver kept Reggie alive, and three years later Hurricane Irene devastated their property in New York. But they're back, very positive on this welcome new CD, and looking ahead to the future, as Harris' own title cut firmly says. Along with their own material, including the Brazilian-inflected love song "Here and Now with You," there's the spiritual "Straighten 'Em" and a very different take on the still timely "Hallelujah I'm a Bum," recast as a Cajun anthem. The bonus cut, "Roll on Woody," pays apt tribute to
Woody Guthrie on the centenary of his birth. The songs, as ever, are socially conscious, but very much about moving forward -- in every way, as a version of "Never Go Back" makes clear.
The Harrises do what they do superbly, a couple who have raised their game again with this release. ~ Chris Nickson
